Plateful

On TestFlight for my family

Photograph a page of the family recipe book; the app types it up and learns what everyone likes.

  • Photo to recipe with Gemini
  • Supabase + row-level security
  • Ships to TestFlight on push

The story

My mom cooks from a binder of recipes, most of them in French, and nobody remembers which ones we liked. Plateful turns a photo of a page into an editable recipe, lets each person rate the meal with stars, builds a dashboard of the ingredients each of us loves or avoids, and suggests what to cook from what is in the pantry. The family joins with a six-letter code; the app speaks French and English.

Who uses it

Built in a week in September 2026 and in use by my family on TestFlight and the web. Their first usability round shaped the star ratings, the dish photo and the list sorting.

What I did

  • The Expo app: scan, review and edit, recipe pages, ratings, ingredient tastes per person, pantry-aware meal ideas.
  • The Supabase back end: Postgres schema with row-level security per household, and the Gemini prompts in Edge Functions behind one AI adapter.
  • Maestro flows on the release build, and a CI pipeline that puts each build on TestFlight for the family group.

What’s new

  1. Every push to main builds the iPhone app and adds it to the family’s TestFlight group, with a web version for everyone else.
  2. The first usability round: instant star ratings, a photo of the dish, sharing, and lists that sort.
  3. Day one: scan a recipe page, rate it, and share one household across the family on Supabase.
